Mini Dental Implants

Mini dental implants, like their name states, are smaller than traditional implants. They can be placed here at Christina Boesch, DMD, MAGD very fast and with minimal pain. Dr. Boesch may use mini implants to secure wobbly dentures or to replace smaller teeth. These implants can be easily placed in locations where regular dental implants cannot be placed; however, mini implants are not as sturdy as full size implants. Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of mini implants.

PROS

No need for complex flap surgery
Mini-implants have all the advantages of implants in general, but, as their name implies, they are smaller and can be placed without complex flap surgery.

Less invasive procedure with shorter healing time
Mini implants do not require surgery like traditional implants so the healing process is much faster. Healing time is reduced from months to days.

Immediate tooth replacement or denture stabilization.
Because invasive surgery is not involved a tooth can be placed on a mini implant that day! A denture can be stabilized the same day! With traditional implants there is usually a 4-6 month waiting period before they can be used to replace teeth or stabilize a denture.

Less Discomfort
Less disturbance to bone and tissue means most patients need only over-the-counter pain medication, if any, for a day or so after the procedure. We have a number of patients that said they did not take any pain medication the following day.

Convenient
Typically the procedure can be completed in one visit and most of our patients can eat normally the same afternoon.

Comfortable
Preventing dentures from moving around will greatly increase your comfort and chewing ability. They can be used to realign and improve dentures. If a tooth is being placed on a mini implant, it will feel like a natural tooth with ability to brush and floss it like normal.

Prevents facial collapse
Since the mini implant is fixed in your jawbone like a tooth root, it prevents facial collapse that can occur with bone loss.

No need to take off multiple days of work.
Since the mini implant is fixed in your jawbone like a tooth root, it prevents facial collapse that can occur with bone loss.

Affordable
Mini implants are typically about half of the cost of traditional implants.

CONS

Vertical bone requirement
Since the mini implants require bones to support them, they cannot be used in an area of the jaw with inadequate vertical bone or if there has been too much bone loss.

Teeth Grinding
You might not be a good candidate for mini dental implants if you grind your teeth regularly as it may wear them down prematurely or cause implant failure.

Implant-Supported Bridge

If you are missing multiple teeth in a row, you may find that it is difficult to thoroughly chew all of your favorite foods and to smile with confidence. An implant-supported bridge in Orlando may be the ideal treatment for you. This remarkable tooth replacement solution can fill in the gap in your mouth and help you enjoy life to the full.

What Is an Implant-Supported Bridge?

A traditional fixed bridge, often called crown and bridge, relies on a patient’s remaining natural teeth for support. An implant-supported bridge, on the other hand, gains all of its strength from small titanium cylinders that are surgically placed below the gum line. They anchor a lifelike restoration that consists of two crowns and an artificial tooth (or teeth) between them. This type of bridge may be able to replace three, four, or more teeth in a row.

What Are the Benefits of an Implant-Supported Bridge?

An implant-supported bridge offers a number of outstanding benefits, including:

  • Placing this type of bridge does not require that we modify any of your remaining natural teeth.
  • Since the implants fuse with the bone around them, you can expect your bridge to be extremely sturdy.
  • The implants can prevent the jawbone from deteriorating, thus helping your face to maintain its natural shape.

What Are Implant Dentures?

Implant dentures are a set of prosthetic teeth held in place with dental implants, or tiny posts that have been implanted beneath your gum line. Dental implants are made of titanium, a sturdy material which promotes the growth of bone tissue to fully integrate with the mouth. Over the course of several months, the dental implant posts gradually fuse together with the jaw bone. Thanks to this process (known as “osseointegration”), dental implants offer far more security than conventional dentures, which rest directly on the gums.
