Most patients experience mild pressure or slight tenderness for the first 1–3 days of each new aligner set — this is completely normal and means the aligners are actively moving your teeth. This is far gentler than metal braces. There are no sharp wires or brackets to irritate your cheeks or gums. Over-the-counter pain relief (like ibuprofen) is rarely needed, but is perfectly fine if needed.

Yes — and this is one of Invisalign's biggest advantages. You simply remove your aligners to eat or drink anything except water. Unlike braces, there are absolutely no food restrictions. Enjoy your steak, popcorn, apples, and anything else you love. Just brush your teeth before reinserting your aligners, and you're good to go.

A small number of patients notice a very slight lisp during the first few days as their tongue adapts to the aligners. This typically resolves within 2–5 days and is far less noticeable than the speech impact of metal braces. Reading aloud or practicing speaking naturally speeds up the adjustment significantly.
